I was the product manager for Mediphany for nearly three years, working from inception to market launch. The client approached our agency, Scopic, with a general concept, and we transformed it into a fully developed product.

Mediphany consisted of three key components:

  • An e-commerce website where customers could place orders for video reports.
  • A customer and radiologist portal for managing workflows and delivering reports.
  • A desktop application for radiologists to record and produce video explanations of medical imaging results.

I managed both designers and developers, handling product and project management responsibilities from start to launch.

Challenges We Faced

  • No direct competitors meant we had to educate customers on what the service was and was not, clarifying that it provided image interpretation rather than medical advice.
  • HIPAA compliance required strict security measures for client data.
  • Low early adoption due to customers not having their MRI or CT images, struggling with large file uploads (often exceeding 2GB), or accidentally closing upload windows. We solved this by offering three alternative methods for submitting scans, which improved conversion rates.

My Role

  • Defined and executed product strategy from concept to launch.
  • Managed A/B testing of messaging, value propositions, and pricing.
  • Developed new features to address customer pain points.
  • Launched the Express Reports variant to expand service offerings.
  • Conducted customer interviews and outreach to improve retention.
  • Implemented tools like HotJar to analyze user behavior and improve UX.
  • Assisted with user support, FAQ writing, and chatbot training.
  • Managed budgets, risk assessments, reporting, and overall project timelines.

Go-to-Market Strategy

  • Optimized messaging to clearly define the service offering.
  • Worked with marketing to drive traffic through targeted campaigns.
  • Addressed key objections by simplifying file submission and improving onboarding.

Results

  • Scaled to hundreds of video report requests per month.
  • Helped drive Mediphany’s expansion efforts to handle growing demand.
  • Provided a valuable service in an industry known for poor patient communication.

Takeaways

  • Navigating compliance and security regulations in healthcare.
  • Driving adoption in a market that required extensive customer education.
  • Balancing technical product management with business growth strategies.

This was my first venture into the healthcare industry, and I found it both challenging and rewarding. Helping people better understand their health while building a scalable, compliant, and user-friendly product was a unique and valuable experience.
